Selank vs Semax: how the two peptides differ
Selank and Semax are related synthetic heptapeptides from the same Moscow institute. How their structures and research backgrounds differ.
What they share
Both are synthetic heptapeptides (seven amino acids) developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow, and both end in the same Pro-Gly-Pro sequence, added to slow their breakdown.
Where they differ
Semax (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) is built on the ACTH(4-7) fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone. Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) is built on tuftsin, a short fragment of immunoglobulin G.
Their research backgrounds differ to match. Semax has mostly been studied in models of brain injury and neurotrophic signalling. Selank has mostly been studied in models of anxiety-related behaviour and immune signalling.
Status
Both are registered as medicines in Russia. Neither is licensed in the UK, and both are sold here strictly for laboratory research.
