Research background
Semax was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow in the 1980s, and most research on it has been published in Russia.
Studies have used models of brain injury and neurotrophic signalling, including brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
It is registered as a medicine in Russia but is not licensed in the UK.
